Check them out here:

http://www.amazon.com/Day-5-Year-Journal-Potter-Style/dp/0307719774APhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04438448963434985364noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7574488354325433283.post-54520112414657103572011-10-17T13:41:36.529-06:002011-10-17T13:41:36.529-06:00I like the idea of writing down our ideas, memorie...I like the idea of writing down our ideas, memories and to dicuss it with someone. I didn't touch o...I know exactly what you mean! I didn't touch on it in the post, of course, but the ethics behind certain shoots are a whole 'nother layer of concern. The community college here had that issue when they were considering having portraits of students hung on the wall, considering it until the permissions and consent issue started plaguing them, and they abandoned the idea. They got away with "portraits" in the end with a pair of silhouettes where you can't see the faces. But still...

Some of the best portraits I've taken have been with consent, but I had to follow them around with a lens for a few hours until they finally relaxed. Why don't people feel like they can be themselves in front of a camera? Or are they worried that the camera will capture an honest version of themselves?APhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04438448963434985364noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7574488354325433283.post-69105547017481699662011-06-24T13:39:58.425-06:002011-06-24T13:39:58.425-06:00On one hand, by shooting without consent, you are ...On one hand, by shooting without consent, you are capturing a real life moment, which is something that is beautiful, or ugly, depending. However, as much as this is desirable, I too, take issue with this because of the lack of consent. How can a photographer, then, capture a non-pose? I've often thought about this, and wondered if perhaps advance consent could be gained.... permission to follow for a couple of hours and shoot. (Seems like a pain.)
Ssecretly shooting people is probably not that big of a deal, but there could be the odd person who has been relocated due to being victimized, and in need of secrecy. What are the odds that anyone would see the image, and use it to find this person? (eg. domestic violence cases) Unlikely, but not impossible, especially with image information being so readily available.
This is not to say that shooting without consent should never happen, but offering one small possible negative.
In the end, maybe it has to do with whether or not the photos will be used for personal development, or for profit/ showing. If the latter is the case, I think explicit consent is needed. If the former, shoot away? (I have a very wide number of thoughts on this topic and on various situations such portraits may create/ exacerbate/ solve, etc.) -LAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7574488354325433283.post-34948132251882853772011-06-16T15:02:48.797-06:002011-06-16T15:02:48.797-06:00Nope - door to door delivery for you ;)

If I could, I would have a very eclectic style going on at home-- what is it called? shabby chic? only less with the shabby and more with the sassy mix of modern and old. I will be sure to send my Pa to Toronto if he ever gets bored. Of if I apply for that job and get it. Will I have to pay for Omiyage shipping if I live in Toronto? j/k.APhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04438448963434985364noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7574488354325433283.post-27081643353432958782011-06-16T12:54:02.035-06:002011-06-16T12:54:02.035-06:00I love antiquing - is that a sign of old age?

I bought this fabulous table maybe 3 years ago that Elias was to refinish for me - you can imagine that it looks just about the same as it did when we bought it. I love it regardless!

You must hit up some temple flea markets / antique markets on your next trip to Japan.
